Reporting Incorrect Prices (Calibration)

When you buy something, you should be able to trust that the price is correct. Sometimes the price depends on a measurement—such as the weight of fruit or the amount of gas you fill up with.

Do you think a price is incorrect because a meter or scale isn’t measuring properly? If so, file a report with the Supervision and Enforcement Directorate.

What does this product or service mean?

Meters and scales are used in stores and businesses, as well as in hospitals and pharmacies. Examples include gas pumps, water meters, electricity meters, and scales. These devices measure, for example, how much gas, water, or electricity you use, or how much a product weighs.

Businesses must use meters and scales that have been calibrated and approved. They must also use standard units of measurement. On Bonaire and in the region, the standard units of measurement are the kilogram and the liter.

The rules are set forth in the BES Calibration Act of 2014, the BES Calibration Regulation, and the Units of Measurement Decree of 2006. These rules protect consumers and ensure fair trade.

The Calibration Authority monitors whether businesses comply with these rules. On Bonaire, the Calibration Authority falls under the Supervision and Enforcement Directorate of the Public Entity of Bonaire.

Do you think a price is incorrect? For example, due to an incorrect measurement, a scale that is not properly calibrated, or a meter that is not working properly? If so, you can file a report.
