If you do not have any objects on, under, or above public land, you do not pay land use tax.
The public land tax is a tax for individuals and businesses that have structures on, under, or above public land.
Public land is land owned by the Public Entity of Bonaire that is intended for everyone’s use.
Examples include streets, sidewalks, parks, public green spaces, and public waters.
Examples of objects for which you pay precario tax:
- patios
- cables and pipes
- construction materials
- awnings
- illuminated signs
- flags
When can you apply for this?
You pay a public land tax if:
- you have an object on, under, or above public land
- you have or are required to have a permit for this
- you use the land as agreed
How do you apply for this?
Here’s how the public land tax works:
- you apply for a permit to use public land (Public Land Use Permit)
- After approval, you’ll receive a public land use tax assessment
- You pay the public land use tax as stated in the assessment
The tax is often assessed annually.
