A large event attracts many people and can cause disturbances. To organize one, you’ll need at least one event permit. You can apply for the permit(s) with the municipality.
What does this product or service mean?
Examples of large events include a street fair, a carnival parade, a fair, a concert, or a festival. The event is open to the public. A large event often causes disturbances in the surrounding area. To hold a large event, you must apply for a permit from the municipality.
You are organizing a large event if:
- your event is open to the public
- the event:
- takes place outdoors or in a tent, or
- takes place indoors at a location not designated for events
- there is loud music at the event
- traffic control measures are required
When can you apply for this?
See the application form for all requirements. Are you organizing a small event? Then you do not need to apply for a permit. You must, however, notify the municipality of the event.
How do you apply for this?
Here’s how to organize a large event:
- Apply for the permit from the municipality well in advance.
The municipality will coordinate with the emergency services, among others. This may result in additional requirements.
Are you organizing a large event for which you may need multiple permits? If so, contact the municipality before applying for the permit.
You may also need to apply for a permit or exemption for, for example:
- placing advertising or directional signs
- organizing an event on a Sunday or a holiday
- occasionally organizing a celebration at your (hospitality) business
- temporarily serving alcohol
- using roads and paths for a cycling or running race
- playing music or making loud noise on the street
- organizing an event in or near a nature reserve

How long does it take?
The municipality will make a decision within 8 weeks of receiving your application. The municipality may extend this period once.
Do you disagree with the decision?
You may file an objection to the decision on your application. You must do so within 6 weeks. If you subsequently disagree with the ruling on your objection, you may file an appeal with the court.

The BES Personal Data Protection Act specifies how the Public Entity of Bonaire must do this.
