Music Rules for Neighbors

There are rules regarding music volume levels. These rules are outlined in the Music Guidelines. The rules are in place to maintain peace and order in the neighborhood.

What does this product or service mean?

What should you pay attention to?

It is always prohibited to cause a nuisance or noise disturbance to neighbors. This applies to everyone.

The Music Guidelines are agreements regarding noise. These agreements apply to everyone—residents as well as business owners.
The rules cover music coming from homes, stores, and other buildings. Outdoor music is also included. The goal is to prevent nuisance for nearby residents.

The guidelines supplement other permits, such as the liquor and hospitality permit.

How do you apply for this?

If you play music, you must comply with the noise standards. Do not play loud music that disturbs others.

Noise pollution occurs when sound levels exceed the values in the table below.

This refers to the average sound level over a longer period (Lar, LT) and the maximum sound level (Lamax). These levels are measured in dB(A), a unit of sound that accounts for how people perceive sound.

The measurements apply to the locations listed in the table, such as building facades and inside buildings. The noise levels include unamplified music. The additional 10 dB(A) penalty for clearly recognizable sound is not included in these values.
