On Friday, October 9, 2026, four inspectors from the Supervision and Enforcement Directorate (DT&H) were sworn in as Special Police Officers (BAVPOL). This brings the total number of BAVPOL officers in the directorate to 25.

Earlier this year, a group of inspectors successfully completed their training. During the program, they learned about criminal law, professional conduct, and how to prepare an official report, among other topics. Their specific powers are outlined in their appointment letters and certificates. For example, they are authorized to stop a person to verify their identity.

With more inspectors possessing these powers, DT&H can intervene more frequently and more quickly on its own. This strengthens day-to-day supervision and enforcement.

The swearing-in ceremony is part of DT&H’s ongoing professionalization, as the agency continues to invest in the development of its employees. In this way, the department is working toward a safe, orderly, and livable Bonaire.
