Objection to Motor Vehicle Tax

Have you received a letter regarding tax on cars and motorcycles, and do you disagree with the amount? If so, you can notify the Public Entity of Bonaire. This is called filing an objection to the motor vehicle tax.

What does this product or service mean?

What should you pay attention to?

You must respond within 2 months of the date shown on the letter.
If you respond later, the Public Entity of Bonaire will no longer be able to assist you.

Motor vehicle tax (MRB) is a fee you pay for a vehicle, such as a car, motorcycle, or scooter.
The amount is listed on the letter you receive.

Do you disagree with the letter?
For example, because the information is incorrect or because you believe you are not required to pay?
Then you can send a letter or email.

When can you apply for this?

You may respond in the following situations:

• You have sold your vehicle and the license plate was transferred with it.
Include: a copy of valid identification for both individuals and the sales agreement.

• You have surrendered your license plate but still received a tax assessment.
Please include: a copy of your ID and a copy of the form stamped by the Department of the Treasury.

• Your license plate has been stolen or lost.
Please include: a copy of your ID and the police report.

• Your vehicle uses a different fuel than what is listed on the tax notice.
Please include: a copy of your ID and proof of the correct fuel type.

• You have already paid but still received a reminder.
Please include: a copy of your ID and proof of payment.

• The license plate was never yours.
Please include: a copy of your ID.

• The license plate is not in use, for example, due to a broken-down vehicle or repossession.
Please include: a copy of your ID, proof of the situation, and proof that the insurance has been canceled.

How do you apply for this?

Here’s how to let us know that you disagree with the assessment:

• You can do this online via the provided link.
• You can also write a letter.
You can submit it at the service desk or email it to belasting-olb@bonairegov.com.

Include the following in your letter or email:

  • your name
  • your full address
  • your CRIB number
  • the assessment number
  • the payment reference
  • the license plate number
  • the date shown on the tax assessment
  • the date you are writing the letter
  • a clear explanation of why you disagree with the tax assessment
  • a copy of the tax assessment
  • a recent extract from the Chamber of Commerce (no older than 6 months), if applicable
  • documents supporting your explanation

Are you writing on behalf of someone else?
If so, please include a letter stating that you are authorized to act on that person’s behalf.

How long does it take?

You will receive a response as soon as possible.
How long this takes depends on your situation and whether you have included all the necessary information.

Do you disagree with the decision?

Do you disagree with the response you receive?
If so, you may file a lawsuit within 2 months.

What do we do with your personal data?

When you submit an application or report, the Public Entity of Bonaire needs your personal data. The Public Entity of Bonaire handles your data with care.

The BES Personal Data Protection Act specifies how the Public Entity of Bonaire must do this.

The most important rules are:

· The Public Entity of Bonaire only requests data that is necessary for processing your application or report. 

  • They record and process your data securely, confidentially, and with care
  • Your data will only be used for the application or report, or for something directly related to it.
  • Your data will not be retained longer than necessary for the application or report.
  • Other organizations will only receive your data if required by law.
  • You may ask how your data is being used and what happens to it.
