When you sell a car, motorcycle, or scooter, you must transfer the license plate. You can also apply for a new license plate or return a license plate.
What does this product or service mean?
If you move abroad, you must return your license plates to the Finance Department before you leave. If you do not do so, you will continue to be required to pay motor vehicle tax.

A police report if your license plate has been stolen or if you have lost it
Stolen or Lost License Plate
If the license plate has been stolen or if you have lost it, you must report this to the Finance Department. You can use the surrender form for this purpose.
If you have only one license plate, you must surrender it.
You can then apply for a new number from your insurance company. The first day of the following quarter will then be your new registration date for the plate. This means you do not have to pay tax for the quarter in which the plate was stolen or lost.
Please note! In the event of loss, your tax liability does not end until all motor vehicle tax assessments have been paid.
Have you sold your car, motorcycle, or scooter and no longer need the license plates?
In that case, you must return the license plates to the Finance Department. If you do not do so, you must continue to pay the motor vehicle tax.
In all other cases where you no longer need the license plates, you can return them to the Finance Department of the OLB.
When selling a used motor vehicle with license plates, the seller and buyer must have the registration transferred to the buyer’s name.
What does it cost?
A new license plate costs $8.40.
If you have already paid for the old license plate, the amount will be refunded to you.
