Have you seen food in a store that is past its expiration date? Or have you noticed at home, after opening it, that food has gone moldy? If so, you can report this to the Public Entity of Bonaire. This helps ensure that food in stores remains safe for everyone.
What does this product or service mean?
Food with a “best by” date may not be sold after that date. This can pose a risk to your health.
By reporting the sale of expired food, you’re letting authorities know that something is wrong with the food being sold.
For example:
- The product smells or tastes off.
- There’s something in the product that shouldn’t be there.
- The product’s expiration date has already passed.
- The food turns out to be moldy after you’ve opened it.
There are two types of dates for food in stores.
Some products have a long shelf life. These products have a “best before” date (THT). This date indicates until when the manufacturer is responsible for the product’s quality. After this date, the seller is responsible.
Other products can only be stored for a short time because they spoil quickly. These products have a “use by” date (TGT). These products may no longer be sold after this date. The department checks for compliance with these dates in stores and other businesses that sell food and beverages.
By reporting a violation, you’re not only helping yourself but also other residents of Bonaire.
