Would you like to rent out a room, apartment, or house for an extended period? This is possible on Bonaire, but only if you comply with the applicable rules. On this page, you can read about when long-term rentals are permitted.
What does this product or service mean?
You can check the Bonaire Spatial Development Plan (ROB) to see if long-term rentals are permitted on your property.
Renting out a home for the long term means renting a room, apartment, or home to the same person or household for more than 90 consecutive days. This is called long-term rental.
Long-term rental is intended for permanent or semi-permanent occupancy.
This type of rental is not intended for tourist stays.
You are not permitted to rent out a residence for the long term everywhere on Bonaire. Long-term rentals are only permitted in areas zoned for:
- Residential
In areas zoned for Recreation, long-term rentals are not permitted.
When can you apply for this?
Your room, house, or apartment must be rented out for at least 90 consecutive days.
This must be a continuous period to the same person or the same household.
Nuisance
You are jointly responsible for the behavior of your tenants.
You must prevent disturbances to neighbors.
If there are reports or indications of disturbances, the Supervision & Enforcement Department may launch an investigation.
Fire Safety
The property must comply with the regulations of the BES Building Code.
This means, among other things, that the property must be fire-safe.

- Ensure that your property complies with the rules regarding safety and the prevention of nuisances.
Reporting Disturbances or Illegal Rentals
Are you experiencing disturbances caused by people renting a property in your neighborhood? If so, you can contact the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force (KPCN).
Do you suspect that a property is being rented out illegally?
If so, you can file a report with the Supervision and Enforcement Directorate.
