Fireworks

On Bonaire, there are rules governing the sale, transport, and storage of fireworks. These rules are in place for the safety of all residents. Before you begin, you must always file a report and apply for a permit.

What should you pay attention to?

The sale of fireworks is only permitted from December 27 through December 31 of each year. You may not sell fireworks outside of this period. The permit must be applied for at least 6 weeks before the start of this period.

Fireworks are products that can produce light, sound, and fire. There are two types of fireworks: consumer fireworks and professional fireworks. Rules apply to the sale, transport, and storage of fireworks.

When can you apply for this?

You must comply with the following conditions:

  • You must submit a prior notification for the transportation or storage of fireworks.
  • You must apply for an APK permit to sell fireworks.
  • You may only sell fireworks from December 27 through December 31.
  • You may not sell fireworks to anyone under the age of 18.
  • Smoking is not permitted at fireworks sales locations.
  • You must follow safety rules when selling and using fireworks.

How do you apply for this?

Do you want to import, transport or store fireworks? If so, you must first file a report with the Public Entity of Bonaire. To do this, use the online form.

Do you want to sell fireworks? If so, you must apply for an APK permit. You may not sell fireworks without an APK permit.

When submitting your application, you must provide the following documents, among others:

  • proof of payment to Selibon
  • proof of payment of application fees
  • a floor plan of the sales area and storage area

Your application will only be processed once it is complete.

If it is determined that fireworks are being stored at an unauthorized location, this may result in criminal penalties.

How long does it take?

After submitting a complete notification and application, you will receive a response within a few business days.

What does it cost?

An APK permit costs $20,95.

What do we do with your personal data?

When you submit a request or report, the Public Entity of Bonaire needs your personal data. The Public Entity of Bonaire handles your data with care.

The BES Personal Data Protection Act specifies how the Public Entity of Bonaire must do this.

The most important rules are:

  • The Public Entity of Bonaire only requests data necessary to process your request or report.
  • They record and process your data securely, confidentially, and with care.
  • Your data will only be used for the application or report, or for something directly related to it.
  • Your data will not be retained longer than necessary for the application or report.
  • Other organizations will only receive your data if required by law.
  • You may ask how your data is being used and what happens to it.
