On Friday, October 2, Executive member Dennis Martinus met with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (I&W) to discuss Bonaire’s road program. Among other topics, the meeting addressed unpaved roads in existing neighborhoods. The Public Entity of Bonaire (OLB) will further elaborate on this task in the road plan.
“Good roads are essential for daily life. Residents must be able to safely reach their homes, schools, workplaces, and healthcare facilities without being inconvenienced by dust, mud, and water,” emphasizes Executive member Martinus.
In the plan, the OLB will identify which roads need to be addressed, what the priorities and costs are, and for which projects funding is still needed. The plan will serve as the basis for further discussions with the national government regarding additional funding.
Maintenance, drainage, and traffic safety are also taken into account. Where possible, space for pedestrians and cyclists is also being considered. OLB therefore aims to provide clearer insight into which roads will be addressed and what the schedule is.
As soon as the updated road plan has been further elaborated, consultations with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management will continue.
