On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the Executive Council of Bonaire welcomed State Secretary Eric van der Burg of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) and his delegation for a working visit. During the meeting, they discussed the progress of the administrative agreement between Bonaire and the Kingdom, good governance, and the island’s further development. They also discussed what the Public Entity of Bonaire (OLB) needs to keep pace with Bonaire’s rapid development.
The Executive Council provided an overview of the initiatives that have already been launched and the plans for the coming period. Topics discussed included the development of public transportation, energy security, strengthening financial processes, and the implementation of the agreements outlined in the administrative agreement.
A key topic was the strengthening of the administrative and civil service organization. Bonaire’s rapid growth calls for an organization capable of responding to the increasing needs of residents and the challenges that come with them. The Executive Council and the State Secretary discussed which measures the Public Entity of Bonaire will take on its own and where further cooperation and support from the national government are needed. Attention was also given to administrative integrity and strengthening the capacity to effectively implement the agreements that have been made.
Meeting with the Lieutenant Governor
Prior to the consultation with the Executive Council, Lieutenant Governor John Soliano met separately with State Secretary Van der Burg. This meeting focused on the administrative situation on Bonaire, good governance, and the further strengthening of public administration.
The working visit underscores the importance of effective cooperation between Bonaire and the Kingdom. Both parties remain committed to the further development of Bonaire and a better future for the island and its residents.
