On Wednesday, October 28, the OLB is once again organizing an Environmental Expo for businesses. This year, the expo is aimed at retailers, wholesalers, and cold storage and freezer facilities. Everyone is welcome from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Jong Bonaire.
New environmental regulations for businesses have been in effect since April 1, 2024. At the expo, business owners will learn what these regulations mean for them and what steps they need to take. This will be covered in three presentations. The first presentation covers the BES Facilities and Activities Decree (IAB), which outlines the new environmental regulations. This will be followed by a presentation on the Bonaire Sustainable Waste Management Program (DAB), focusing on better waste management on the island. Finally, you’ll learn how the OLB monitors whether businesses are complying with the regulations: the enforcement policy.
In addition, there will be a panel discussion where visitors can talk with local officials about a number of key issues. At the expo, companies will showcase solutions for waste, wastewater, and energy conservation, such as solar panels. There will also be plenty of time for networking.
“With this expo, we want to keep Bonaire clean and healthy, together with local businesses,” says Program Manager Leendert de Jong. “We know that many companies find it difficult to understand what is expected of them. What should you do? Where do you start? And what solutions are already available on the island? We’d rather provide clarity together in advance than have to enforce compliance afterward.”
