Have you received a bill for your land tax and do you disagree with the amount? If so, you can send a letter or email to the Public Entity of Bonaire. This is called filing a land tax appeal.
Here’s how to do it.
What does this product or service mean?
You must respond within 2 months of the date on the tax assessment.
If you are late, the Public Entity of Bonaire will no longer be able to review your request.
Property tax is an amount you pay each year on the property you own on Bonaire.
The amount is listed on the tax assessment you receive from the Public Entity of Bonaire.
You may disagree with the tax assessment, for example, if:
- You have already sold the land.
- You believe the value of your home or parcel is too high.
- You are not required to pay tax on land, but you are required to pay tax on real estate.
In these cases, you can submit a written response.
When can you apply for this?
You may submit a response if:
- you are no longer the owner of the property or plot
Include with your letter: a copy of the notary’s deed - you believe the value of your home or plot is too high
Include with your letter: photos of your home or land, both interior and exterior - you are not required to pay land tax, but are required to pay real estate tax
How do you apply for this?
Here’s how to let us know that you disagree with the bill:
• Send a letter or an email.
• You can do this by:
- handing in the letter at the Finance Department’s front desk, or
- sending an email with attachments to belasting-olb@bonairegov.com
Include the following in your letter or email:
- your name
- your full address
- your CRIB number
- the assessment number
- the payment reference
- the cadastral number
- the date of the assessment
- the date you are writing the letter
- a clear explanation of why you disagree with the assessment
- a copy of the assessment
Do you have supporting documents? Please include them.
Are you responding on behalf of someone else? Please include a letter stating that you have their authorization.
