What does this product or service mean?

An address investigation is an administrative inquiry. The Civil Affairs Department, in collaboration with the Supervision & Enforcement Division, investigates whether the people registered at the address actually live there.

It is important that this information is accurate. Is someone registered at your address even though they do not live with you? Additionally, a person who is incorrectly registered at an address may be committing fraud.

Government agencies may also request an address investigation if they use address data from the Personal Records Database (PIVA).

How do you apply for this?

Here's how to request an address investigation:

  • Contact the Civil Affairs Department
  • You will need:
    • your valid ID
    • proof that you are the owner or tenant of the residence
    • the personal data of the person or people concerned

The investigation takes up to 8 months.
