Property tax is an annual tax levied on owners of a home, building, or parcel of land on Bonaire. This applies to a home that you use as your primary residence or to a home, building, or parcel of land that is part of a business.
What does this product or service mean?
Property tax is calculated based on the value of your home, building, or parcel of land. This value is determined by the Public Entity of Bonaire, typically once every five years.
When can you apply for this?
You pay property tax if:
- on January 1, you own a home that you live in yourself; or
- you own a home, building, or piece of land that belongs to a business.
No property tax is levied if the assessed value is less than USD 10,000.
How do you apply for this?
You generally do not need to register yourself. Tax liability is determined based on the registered ownership records.
In the event of changes in ownership, additional documents may be requested, such as:
- a title deed;
- an extract from the Land Registry;
- a valid form of identification.
What does it cost?
The property tax is 0.345% of the assessed value of the property.
Example:
With an assessed value of USD 250,000, you pay USD 862.50 in property tax per year.
