What does this product or service mean?
We do not process incomplete applications.
- Downtown: A demolition permit is required before applying for a building permit
- Residential area: Only for historic buildings (historic buildings require a historic preservation permit in addition to a demolition permit)
- Large buildings: demolition permit
- Residential home: no demolition permit required; notification only
If you wish to demolish an existing building, you only need to apply for a demolition permit.

How do you apply for this?
Here’s how to submit a request to demolish a building:
- You must have the building inspected to determine whether asbestos is present
- You must verify whether a nature permit is required for this
- If asbestos is present in the building, you must comply with the asbestos regulations
- You must submit a request via....
- You must include the following attachments with your request:
- A certificate confirming that the building is asbestos-free
- A schedule of the demolition work
- A notarial deed or written authorization
- A survey report
- A construction drawing in A1 format (including site plan)
- You must pay the required building permit fees associated with your request
- Upon commencement of demolition, you must report this to the R&O counter

How long does it take?
Your request will be processed once the building permit fees have been paid. We aim to finalize your request within 16 weeks. The Executive Council may postpone the decision by up to eight weeks.
What does it cost?
You will receive an invoice via email for the payment of the building permit fees.
