Activities of Public Health Bonaire

Travel Consultation Hours

The travel consultation hours are intended for anyone traveling abroad who wants to be well-prepared for potential health risks. During the consultation, you’ll receive personalized advice on vaccinations, malaria prevention, and other measures tailored to your destination, length of stay, and health status. You can also visit to update your vaccinations—such as for yellow fever, DTP, or hepatitis—and to receive general health advice for long-distance travel. The goal is to ensure travelers set out safely and in good health, well-protected against diseases prevalent in other countries.

Did you know, for example, that vaccination against yellow fever is mandatory for travelers who have been in a high-risk area, such as Colombia or Brazil, within 7 days prior to arrival on Bonaire? This also applies to infants 9 months and older. For more information or to make an appointment, please contact us here:

Sexual Health Clinic

This clinic is for anyone with questions about love, sex, relationships, contraception, or STIs (sexually transmitted infections). The clinic is intended for anyone who needs information or assistance. The nurses speak Papiamentu, Dutch, English, and Spanish. You can also get tested for STIs for free and anonymously. Call or send a WhatsApp message to (+599) 790 7373 for questions or to make an appointment.

Flu and COVID-19 Vaccination

To provide people with extra protection against the flu and COVID-19, an annual vaccination campaign is organized around October and November. During this campaign, people in high-risk groups—such as older adults and those with weakened immune systems—can get vaccinated against both viruses. The vaccines help prevent serious illness and hospitalization, especially during flu season when these infections are more common. Both vaccines can be administered at the same time, usually one in each arm. The vaccination is free for the target groups and helps keep you and those around you healthy.

Healthy Youth, Healthy Future

A healthy environment at school, at daycare, or in the neighborhood contributes to a healthy youth and a healthy future. That is why we encourage healthy choices among children.

At school, students are offered fruit and encouraged to drink water. Every schoolyard has a water fountain, and students drink from their own Blue Bottle. At childcare centers, healthy eating, drinking, and physical activity are encouraged. Neighborhoods and sports fields have water fountains. This is how we work together to make healthy behavior the norm! If you have questions or would like more information, please email bonsaluggd@bonairegov.com.

Greenkidz

Greenkidz Bonaire is an educational initiative based on the Greenkidz Curaçao mosquito prevention program. It is aimed at children ages 8 to 12 and aims to teach them how they can help prevent mosquito breeding sites and protect their own health. The program consists of interactive and creative educational sessions led by the Vector Team of Public Health Bonaire. The sessions combine theory with practice: through exercises, games, and demonstrations, the children learn more about the anatomy of mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti), their life cycle, where mosquitoes breed, and more. In a fun and educational way, they learn how important a clean and healthy living environment is for everyone.

Sex Education

Sexuality is a normal part of life, but it is often difficult to talk about. That is why Public Health Bonaire aims to provide children and young people with reliable, age-appropriate information. This helps them learn to treat themselves and others in a safe and respectful manner. This information is intended to educate, not to encourage.

Publich Health Bonaire helps teachers and social workers deliver lessons on love, relationships, and sexuality. These lessons cover topics such as respect, mutual consent, self-confidence, contraception, and preventing STIs. If you have questions or would like more information, please email resilensiaggd@bonairegov.com.
